Climate change solution

While I was driving today I heard a radio commentator saying this below, when he was asked why he opposes the climate change discussion happening in UN.

"As long as the fossil fuels are cheaper than renewable energy, the whole discussion about setting the carbon maximum limit by each countries are not going to work. Because they are going to break that or indirectly manipulate to meet it. There are very less chances to make impact as it is not cost effective yet. The only way to make climate change effective is make the renewable energy much cheaper than fossil fuels. Investment and innovation in renewable energy to reach the masses are the only solution for climate change meaningful solution."

Mission Possible: 20,000 Megawatts

The Indian cabinet approved a plan on Thursday that sets out to increase energy production from solar technology to 20 gigawatts by 2022, up from six megawatts today. The government will spend about 43 billion rupees ($922 million) in the first of three phases of the program. The total cost for all three phases could approach $20 billion.

எல்லோருக்கும் சூரியசக்தி

சூரிய ஒளியில் இருந்து மின்சாரம் எடுப்பது இந்தியா போன்ற நாடுகளுக்கு சுலபம். சுமார் 10 மணி நேரம் சூரிய ஒளி சராசரியாக இருக்கிறது. ஆனால் ஒரு பெரிய பிரச்சனை என்னவென்றால், ஆரம்ப முதலிடு (capital investment) மிகவும் அதிகம். இதனால் சூரியசக்தி ஏழைகளுக்கு எட்டா கனியாகவே இருந்தது. அதை இந்தியாவில் முற்றிலும் மாற்றி கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு நிறுவனம் தான் SELCO.

இந்த நிறுவனத்தின் CEO சமிபத்தில் Financial Times-CSR(Corporate Social Responsibilty) விருது பெற்றபொழுது கூறுகையில் "ஒரு நடை பாதை கடைகாரருக்கு மாதம் ரூபாய் 300 என்பது மிக அதிகம், ஆனால் அதே கடைக்காரர் ரூபாய் 10 மின்சாரதிர்க்காக செலவு செய்ய முடியும். ஏனெனில் இப்போது அவர் மண்ணெண்ணைக்கு மாதம் ரூபாய் 15 செய்கிறதை விட இது குறைவு என்றால் நிச்சயம் அவர்கள் சுரியசக்திக்கு மாறுகிறார்கள். அதனால் தான் நாங்கள் இது வரை 1,00,000 விடுகளுக்கு சூரியசக்தி முலம் வெளிச்சம் கொண்டுவந்திருக்கிறோம்"

Can I earn money from my home solar?

Yes in California. There’s a new reason to be proud (and financially pleased) to be a solar owner in California today.

With the new net metering law, Utilities(PGE or EB) must now PAY you cash money at the end of the year if your panels produce extra solar power. How much will they pay you per kWh?
That’s still to be decided by the California Public Utility’s commission, but it should be significant.

Previously, owners with excess solar energy just decided to turn up the air conditioning and leave on the lights, rather than let the utility use their extra power for free.

The law goes into effect January 1, 2011, to allow the California Public Utility Commission to work out the details ($).
So get rid of that old fridge and turn off the lights!

கடந்த சில நாட்களாக சூரிய ஒளியில் இருந்து மின்சாரம் தயாரிக்கும் கருவிகளை பற்றி ஒரு ஆர்வம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. அதை பற்றி மேலும் விவரங்களை சேகரிக்க உள்ளேன். இந்த தொழில் நுட்பத்தை பற்றி படிக்கும் பொழுது மிகவும் ஆச்சிரியமாகவும் ஆவலாகவும் இருக்கிறது. இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் வருடங்களில் (அல்லது நாட்களில்) பூமியின் தட்ப வெப்ப நிலை அதிகரிக்கும் நிலையில் இது போன்ற தொழில் நுட்பங்கள், இந்தியா போன்ற வளர்ந்து வரும் நாடுகளுக்கு மிகப்பெரிய வரப்பிரசாதமாக இருக்கும்.
